Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal construction zone accident on southbound Interstate 35W as Pierre Mack, a MnDOT contractor who was struck and killed Wednesday morning.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that the incident occurred just before 9 a.m. near Burnsville Parkway. According to investigators, a boom truck operating within the closed construction zone was reversing when it struck Mack, who was on foot at the time.
Radio dispatches confirmed that emergency responders pronounced Mack deceased at the scene. The construction zone was closed to the public at the time of the accident, and officials say only authorized vehicles and workers were present.
The driver of the boom truck has not been publicly identified. No other injuries were reported.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office was requested to the scene, and the incident remains under active investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol and workplace safety officials.
This tragedy has raised fresh concerns about worker safety in construction zones, highlighting the risks faced by contractors and crews working along busy highways.
