Authorities in Hardin County have identified the couple found dead Monday evening in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide.
The victims were Sofia Torres, 50, and Alfredo M. Torres, 53, who were discovered at their home in the 6000 block of FM Highway 1122 after deputies responded to a report of a domestic situation around 5 p.m., according to the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say initial evidence suggests Alfredo Torres shot his wife inside the home before taking his own life in a nearby barn. Deputies arriving on the scene found both with apparent gunshot wounds.
The sheriff’s office confirmed the case is being investigated as a possible murder-suicide. It noted that deputies had previously responded to the same address only once before, in 2020, also for a domestic-related call.
“There has been no other pattern of disturbance calls to that address,” the sheriff’s office stated in a release.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Â
